Bribie Triathlon Series 2009/2010 Race 2:
It was a mixed bag of luck for Arturo Cruz of the Burst Triathlon Club at Race 2 of the Bribie Triathlon on Sunday. With leaking goggles in a choppy swim leg and a puncture in the first lap of the bike course it wasn't going well in the 1000/30/8 long distance event. But the day turned out well with a win of ASICS running shoes in the random draw prize. Warren Forbes finished strong in the long distance event after riding up from Kallangur in preparation for the New Zealand Ironman event in January 2010. It was a family event for Jenny, Gene and Jessica Grehan with Jenny and Gene finishing the 300/10/3 short distance individual event and Jessica competing in the bike leg for the Wamuran school team event. Jessica also competed on Saturday in the Active Kids 200/5/1 event as did younger sister Emma in the 100/3/500 event.
Cameron Brown competed in the Active First Timers 250/6/2 event on Saturday after entries for the Sunday event closed three days earlier than expected due to numbers reaching the 1,000 entrants limit.

Kids set for fun triathlon. Organisers of this year's revamped 2XU Bribie Triathlon Series say interest in the event has been "crazy" as the sport enjoys a boom in popularity.
New divisions for children and beginners and course changes for the elite section are key features of the four race series, which will now be held over two days starting October 17.
Race director Phil Hungerford says he expects up to 700 children to participae in the final race in March, as interes grows throughout the series.
"It's been a bit crazy already," Hungerford said.
"We're anticipating at least 200 kids for the first race, and it may well be more than that. If you look at the Weet Bix series (in Brisbane), they had 3800 last year and it's a once-a-year race. We have four events, so it's going to be huge."
Hungerford said the idea behind the Active Kids Triathlon series and teh First-Timers sections ws to keep people active.
Changes to the elite course will include a new registration area, bike coure and run leg, and a larger transition zone. It will also allow for the maxiumum number of participants increased to 1000. Coach of the Caboolture-based Burst Triathlon Club, Virginia Colbran, has designed an eight-week program to encourage children to participate in the Active Kids Triathlon series.
"It is not a traditional triathlon training program where children are expected to attend daily training similar to adult sessions," Colbran said. "The activities are triahtlon-based exercises to help strengthen the enjoyment of their swim, bike and run legs." Phone Virginia Colbran on 0418886045 or email virginia@bursttc.com.au. Exercise gets a Burst of fun. Virginia Colbran says she is living proof you "don't need a six-pack to do triathlons". The 46-year-old helped create the Burst club in Caboolture, aimed at providing locals with a path to good health. Now in a coach/president role, Colbran is taking business to Logan in a bid to generate more interest. The club will be based at Beenleigh's Go Health Club as well as using the Beenleigh Swimming Pool on City Road. She says the challenge of pounding pavement, causing a splash and slipping a gear should be motivation enough. For everyone else there is pure enjoyment. "The age really doesn''t come into it," said Colbran who jumped on a saddle in 2005 for the first time since high school. "We mainly focus on having a lot of fun. It's amazing what you can do after a short amount of time. "You don't have to be a fantastic swimmer - anyone of any age can have a go." As part of the club, Colbran, a qualified coach provides athletes with training tips and caters for all ages and skill levels. She says personal care is part of the attraction. "It's so different to other clubs becaue we find it's difficult to get people together so we run individual programs,"she said. "If you want to make a change to your lifestyle it's a complete change. "The people that are doing distances already know what they are doing". Colbran admits her own weight issues, which were "getting out of control", forced her to take up the challenge. "I think it's a fantastic sport for women. A lot of times the children can be off their hands and they can have some time for them," she said. By Rhys O'Neil.
